Dear, Reader. Is Substack scaring you off?
When I decided to launch A Sense of Scouse, an important part of the planning process included where to host it. I’ve created Wordpress websites myself before and quite enjoyed it; but I’d heard rumblings that Wordpress was quietly becoming the poor relation as far as bloggers and writers were concerned. The new kid on the block was Substack.
My heart sank. Please! Not another platform to get my head around - why can’t things stand still just long enough for us all to catch up?? But, curiosity got the better of me, and I started clicking around. Sure enough, Substack is where it’s at. With writers like me who want to create enjoyable, informative content for readers like you, who are sick of ‘news’ sites with so many infuriating ads popping around, you give up, having read nothing whatsoever.
So I gave it a chance, and after a few days of screaming at my monitor (apologies to the guy in the flat below), the penny finally dropped, my account miraculously appeared (I’ve still no idea how I did it!) and hey presto, A Sense of Scouse was born.
However, I suspect a problem.
Because so many people have still not heard of Substack, I’ve realised it may be putting people off from subscribing to what I hope will build into a wonderful collection of stories about the city we all love so much.
But here’s the good news - you don’t need to do anything apart from click ‘Subscribe’ and enter your email address. That’s it. Honest, Guv.
If you don’t have Substack on your computer it doesn’t matter. If you don’t have the app on your phone, it doesn’t matter. And even when Substack suggests you download the app, you don’t need to - just skip that bit.
The simplicity for you, the reader, is the whole point. Whenever I upload a story, it’ll be delivered directly to your email inbox, no faff, no annoying ads, no fee!
So, if you’ve considered subscribing to A Sense of Scouse, but thought you couldn’t because you don’t use Substack, please subscribe using just your email; that’s literally all there is to it. Then sit back and wait for your next favourite story to ping in!
